PETALING JAYA: Nazihah Hanis Abd Razak can finally afford a smile after being included in the squash team for next week’s Kuala Lumpur SEA Games.
The 20-year-old initially failed to make the cut after struggling for form due to a spate of injuries since last September.
But a stroke of luck saw Nazihah being named for the Aug 19-30 Games following Zoe Foo’s decision to quit the national team last week.
Nazihah is thrilled to bits to be given a chance to make her SEA Games debut.
“I’ve had some setbacks with hamstring and knee injuries. But I’m fully recovered now,” said Nazihah.
“I feel real lucky and thankful to be given a second chance to make the team.”
The International Islamic School of Malaysia (IISM) student will compete in the women’s doubles with Chan Yiwen.
The other Malaysian pair is Rachel Arnold-Aifa Azman.
“I believe I’ve got enough experience as I also played doubles at the Sukma and South-East Asian Squash Championships (SEA Cup) in February.
“I’ve also partnered Yiwen before so it should not be a problem. We still have another 12 more days to polish up our partnership,” said Nazihah.
Malaysia have set a seven-gold target in squash.
They are expected to sweep the singles (men and women), doubles (men, women and mixed) and team (men and women) events.
